I’ll never be able to own another one with prices the way they already are :(

Mint condition
135,000 miles

I used to work with a guy who went all over Europe towing with them. The newer one had 600,000Kms on it.

exactly.

How about this local Facebook for sale ad?
$10,700.... with 252k on the clock.....

I’m sorry, but that’s too much, Bob.

Who wants to put money on the fact that he’s probably driving the price up himself?
![]() 10/29/2015 at 16:59 |

I could see paying half that for one with half that many miles.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:00 |

Sure sounds like it.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:01 |

yeah, 18 grand for 75k? thats reasonable...ish

My biggest issue with Ebay. I mean if you can’t get the price you want for a car, don’t sell it. Just because you think a car is worth something, doesn’t mean that’s actually what it’s worth...

Depending on the person, but these hold value like crazy and they don’t really seem to exist with less than 150k miles. I found a green one with tan leather, a minor lift and bigger tires for eight grand right before I bought my Audi. Only had 160k miles on it. The guy told us he had someone stopping by the next day to buy it. We told him we would if they didn’t, but they did.

finding sub 150k examples is getting harder and harder.

Yeah, the bidding model doesn’t work so well these days. Especially infuriating is the robobidding.

Will you please explain the irrational love for Land Cruisers?
Also, you could get that or a C6 Z06 for 35K

^Why the fuck is this receiving bids above 18,500?

Will you please explain the irrational love for Land Cruisers?
Please re-read that.

Ah, I thought you meant why a collectors edition. but yeah. This should be halved to be reasonable. A full expo 80 with this mileage wouldn’t go for this.

Shit dude, you could get a Troopy with all the new bits and bobs in her for only a little more than this. Granted you would have to register it as show and display.....
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:26 |
|
Yeah. I don’t get it. To me it is very irrational. Why/how is an 18 yo vehicle with 135K on the odo worth anywhere near half the price that one is going for.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:27 |
|
I bet it doesn’t even have E-Lockers.
Also, shhhhhh, totally NP, we could slowly raise the value of our 80’s to speculators like the E30 M3 guys figured out.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:30 |

Well there are LOTS of cars worth more than 18 grand with 135k on the clock, and the Land Cruiser wasn’t a cheap car to start with so if its well cared for and clean than a price half of this one is at least someone rational. As for why these cars are so loved? It’s just a thing you either get or don’t.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:31 |

HA! nice. Also, yeah I noticed a conspicuous lack of magic dial in the shots. My guess is that you are 100% right.

So it is an off-roaders wet dream? Kinda like that whole Jeep thing?
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:42 |
|
its different from the “jeep thing”...which is more or less just a club think mentality. They are great off road, no question, but owning an old Land Cruiser is like owning an old Benz; it shows you appreciate craftsmanship and quality and are wiling to become a caretaker of such a thing.

Ok, this made me laugh.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:45 |

Which one?
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:50 |
|
Looks like the seller added one too many zeroes when he listed it.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 17:52 |
|
well its DEFINITELY worth $3500, I paid more than that for my much higher mile truck and it was below market value for these.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 18:00 |
|
Fair enough; I don’t know much about these, and this one certainly looks to be in good condition. I’d maybe pay $5k for one of these, but then again, it appears I’m not the target buyer for one of these.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 18:11 |

I was expecting the seller’s name to be BeavertailFootkick

“it shows you appreciate craftsmanship and quality and are wiling to become a caretaker of such a thing”
...said every Land Cruiser owner ever. It made me laugh because all the LC drivers I know say basically the same thing. It’s like they’re curating their rigs for future generations to marvel at in some future Overland Museum.
Don’t get me wrong, I admire this strain of thinking. My XJ doesn’t necessarily warrant it. :)
![]() 10/29/2015 at 18:15 |

yeah, I didn’t think this was true until recently. Im hoping to give it to my daughter if gas holds out long enough.

Sold.
An Antipodean point of view:
Similar mileage trucks here

Obviously WAY different market and we get hammered on most other things compared to you guys...
http://www.carsales.com.au/private/detail…
TBH I think that a lot of the ‘modern classic market’ in all shapes and forms is cooked right now, the prices we are seeing for all sorts of stuff that is ‘fashionable’ for whatever reason is unsustainable (stuff doubling or even tripling in a few years, my pay packet hasn’t doubled in the same time...). But I am interested to how it plays out? Everything I bought I just bought for genuine reasons, not for any potential future gains.
Also I came upon this in the searches, a few pretty pictures
